Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your driver-guide will pick you up from Arusha in the morning for the drive to Tarangire National Park. While famous for its giant baobab trees and massive elephant herds, Tarangire during the green season is beautifully lush and vibrant. Enjoy an afternoon game drive exploring the park’s diverse landscapes. Head to your comfortable mid-range lodge or tented camp on the park border for dinner and a restful night.

Day 2: Tarangire to Ndutu / Southern Serengeti (The Calving Grounds)

After an early breakfast, depart Tarangire and travel through the lush Karatu highlands, entering the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Today you head off the main road and venture into the Ndutu region, which straddles the border of the Southern Serengeti and Ngorongoro. This is the heart of the calving grounds. Arrive for an afternoon game drive across the sweeping fertile plains, where you will see the migratory herds stretching as far as the eye can see. Dinner and overnight at a mid-range tented camp in the Ndutu/Southern Serengeti area.

Day 3: Full Day in Ndutu / Southern Serengeti (Witnessing the Births)

Spend a full day exploring the Ndutu plains and acacia woodlands. Between January and March, roughly 8,000 wildebeest calves are born every single day. You will have the opportunity to witness these vulnerable newborns taking their very first steps. The abundance of easy prey draws immense numbers of predators; keep your eyes peeled for dramatic sightings of cheetahs, lions, leopards, and hyenas on the hunt. Return to your tented camp for a sunset campfire and a classic safari dinner.

Day 4: Deep Dive into Southern Serengeti Plains

Dedicate another full day to tracking the migration. The herds move flexibly based on rainfall, and your private 4×4 vehicle gives you the freedom to follow the action wherever it moves. Explore the shores of Lake Ndutu, where wildlife congregates to drink, or venture further into the southern short-grass plains of the Serengeti proper. The extended time here ensures you get the most comprehensive, unhurried migration experience possible.

Day 5: Southern Serengeti to Karatu Highlands

Arrive in the high-altitude town of Karatu in the late afternoon for dinner and a restful night at a comfortable mid-range lodge.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater Exploration – Return to Arusha

Following an early breakfast, descend 600 meters into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater for a spectacular morning game drive. It offers an excellent chance to spot the endangered black rhino, massive bull elephants, and dense lion prides. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the hippo pool before ascending the crater walls and driving back to Arusha for your afternoon drop-off or airport transfer.
